Re: John Shaw

Some good books include: "Understanding Photography Field Guide" by Bryan Peterson, "National Geographic Complete Photography", "LIFE Guide to Digital Photography", by Joe McNally, an "Take Your Best Shot", by Popular Photography. The Geographic book is my favorite, but all have lots of good photos and information on all things photographic.

You get conflicting critiques because photos are subjective. My suggestion is to look at a lot of photos and paintings that you like and ask yourself what you like about each one. Pros have editors and clients to please. Amateurs only have to please themselves. Listen to the critiques if you want, but be your own judge.
