(All the below is my personal opinion and does not reflect the opinion of dpreview or Amazon).

But it's not perfect:

  • we need to find a full-time video specialist to contribute to the reviews. 1 page listing features doesn't cut it anymore...

I'd say this is digital photography review, just as a dedicated video site may give a 1 page overview of the photo features of a video camera it's perfectly valid for a photography site to not spend too long on video features.

  • too many previews, not enough timely reviews

This isn't new, previews allow the site to get as much detail out in a very short amount of time, a full review (to dpreview quality) takes very many man hours , often cameras are received only shortly before the announcement and aren't final quality (hence can not have any useful review tests carried out on them).

  • what happened to the lens reviews?

It'd be better to let Simon answer this one, but I think it's a combination of circumstance (the move to Seattle) and lack of ROI.

And we do miss your personal style of your reviews and in your comments. I think that's what people mean when they say they miss the Askey-era.

Well thanks but it's just a different personality, same conclusion.

What are you up to nowadays, anyway? And with which camera do you regularly shoot?

Leica M9, Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Panasonic GF1.
