Need a sharp lens for bright light to complement my 20mm

Couldn't you just stop down the 20mm?

The 20mm is sharp no matter what and while it's great for low light there is no reason it can't be great for bright light? Stopping down would give you more depth of field wouldn't it or am I missing something?

I currently have a Panasonic GF3 with the 20mm lens and the 45-200mm lens. The 20mm is a must have for low light and the long zoom one is good for my kids sports events. However, I'm looking for a sharp lens with more DoF than the 20mm to use in bright light and outdoors situations. Any suggestions?
