Re: WB850F How to install new Firmware?

So much for snake_b's condescending advice. The WB850f is a newer camera so there's a remote possibility that its newer firmware won't automatically do the upgrade, but I consider the odds of this happening to be almost infinitesimally small, because the WB850's files include the same text file instructions that the Samsung's cameras follow to start the update when powered on. If Intelli-Studio needed to do any kind of check before starting an update, it would be to verify the authenticity and integrity of a large binary firmware file, not the presence of an 11 byte text file.
But surely, even if the chance of it not working

frying the camera is tiny, isn't better to do it the way that Samsung advises. Weren't people having problems updating TL500 firmware on the EX1 (or vice versa) and having problems?
The problems were mainly due to Samsung's incompetence in making the different firmware updates understandable as to which versions were the latest versions, and most appropriate ones to use. Not all TL500's and EX1's were the same, and Samsung didn't make it easy. I finally got the latest version for my TL500 installed the other day, only because someone pointed out that the wrong version was the one with the most recent date (the correct version had a date 9 months older and had a lower version number). The cameras do a good job of insuring that you don't do anything fatal, even preventing you from installing an older version of the firmware that you might have used before. The only way I've ever heard of anyone frying a camera, producing the "brick" that the snake referred to, would be if the battery ran out of power before the firmware upgrade completed. That's unlikely to happen unless you're using a defective battery, since the camera won't let the firmware upgrade start if it thinks the battery isn't well charged.
