Well that was the best tip I've gotten in a long while. I just happened to be working on b&w technique & this is a great help Wellington!

Its a pleasure. SN mode maximises the detail in the shadow areas while EV -1 protects the highlights in the most contrasty of light. B&W film mode seems to do really well with this setting.

These have been some of my experiments with these settings. In all instances the shadows lifted very nicely in PP while the contrast and tones look pretty good to my eye.
