It didn't work in my TL500. Unlike the 5254 version that includes 5 files, the one that I downloaded from your link only has two files. When I tried installing it, all that it did was show me the currently installed firmware version. When I powered the TL500 off and on again it went right into the usual record photo mode without showing the firmware version. The reason was pretty obvious. Both firmware versions included one file with the same name for each, "FWUP". The version included with the 5254 firmware was a 17 byte text file with two lines, "upgrade all" and "keep". The other FWUP was a 13 byte text file that only had the first "upgrade all" line.
Did you use FW is 108091 , the other one is for cameras that have had some hardware replaced, if you click on the little question mark on the FW download page it mentions this in pigeon english.
No, I didn't notice the hidden pidgin, and Samsung didn't help by making the 108091 version appear to be older, with a lower version number and with a date that's almost 9 months older than the one I installed. I don't really need the latest version since now I have access to all of the functions that used to be grayed out, but thought that I'd try it out. It upgraded with no problems and Defog mode and all of the other options are still available. Thanks.
Unbelievable isn't it! But there were lots of discussions over this a while back, until samsung finally put the pigeon there to try to explain which one to use. For most people who haven't had some particular unknown hardware part replaced, the latest is still 108091 which does have 5 files in the set I think.
