G1X...What a Brick!!! But interesting..

This is not a trashing G1X thread... I just got a chance to finally handle a G1X at my local Ritz Camera shop and compared to my G11, that sucker is a brick to handle... I liked the design, but yes its a brick that would take a little getting used too... I have the S100, G11, and NEX7 with mostly primes and a kit lens that I enjoy using.. But I have always enjoyed the concept of the Canon G-series cameras rugged design as my G11 has never been babied and it takes everything I throw at it. But looking at the G1X it seemed bulkier and heaver than my NEX7 with a kit lens on it.. And I enjoy carrying the G11 on my hip belt using the Tamrac 5691 and 5692 cases that I own. You could get a model case like that to hold the G1X on your belt, but you sure would know that sucker was there...

All this being said, I still look hard at the G-series cameras on what they are going to improve next because I am sure I will get another one eventually based on it's flexibility of use.. But unfortunately, Canon has to do a little bit more before I consider the little brick worth it especially with an $800.00 price tag.. Canon needs to stop handicapping the G-Series cameras because of some possible concern that it may compete with one of their other lower end DSLR product lines. I eagerly look forward to seeing the next G-model for what I consider a more perfect all in one camera for every day use that would replace my G11 one day.....Have a great day and keep on snapping....
