Re: Original 1Ds - how useable is it?

Others have already noted the 1Ds' limitations. I sold mine mainly because I needed higher ISO settings for event work. I was very happy with it for landscape photography, though. I've made 20"x30" prints of trees in which I can count every leaf. If you shoot at low ISO, don't need to shoot fast, and are happy with prints up to 20"x30", the 1Ds' IQ is very good. And, it has all the traditional strengths of the 1-series: great AF, super build quality, big bright viewfinder, built-in vertical grip, long battery life, good battery performance in cold weather, water/dust ingress resistance. I replaced mine with a 40D for a while, but missed the 1Ds so much I soon replaced the 40D with a 1Ds Mark II.
