You forgot to add a line item about IQ

My take is downsampled to 12Meg you got 3/4 to almost a stop on D700 if you donwsample 32Meg file. and maybe 1.5 stop over a D7000.

I am very close to getting into the queue for a D800 and learn to shoot action with a lot more discipline. LIke many I've been spoiled by machine gun shooting. If the AF on the new D800/D4 is as good as some are claiming I'm going possibly give that a go.

With the D800 you have several cameras in one: a d700 (at 12mp), a D7000 (at 15mp), a 5D3 (at 25mp) and the D800 (at 36mp). You have equal or better sensor performance in each case.

The D800 gives you 6fps in DX 15mp mode (with battery pack), 5fps in 1.2x mode (25mp) and 4fps in FX. This is a big step down from the 9fps (FX) and 11fps (DX) for the D3S. So is speed is important then D3S wins.

Finally you get probably trade your 3DS against the D800 + a decent lens as the price level is today.
