Interestingly, this article claims that DSLR pixels tend to be larger than the pixels on a compact camera sensor. If that's the case - for instance, if a 16MP FF has pixels/photoreceptors that are four times larger than the 16MP OMD, I can understand the argument that FF gets more light, since each pixel (photoreceptor) will gather 4 times as much light as the smaller photoreceptor on smaller sensors.
