Re: no swivel lcd, no Pentax

What are your thoughts on sticking with Pentax so I can continue to use my 50/1.4?

As you have noticed, Pentax USA has changed its price policy, raising lens prices, in some cases to ridiculous levels. That was an unfortunate move and the intended benefits have yet to emerge.

However, Pentax builds fantastic DSLRs with a very good value for money ratio. Ergonomically they are better than any Canikon and typically have features that you pay a lot more for elsewhere.

If you do not need high end AF (let's see how the K-30 can raise the game) then Pentax simply builds the best APS-C bodies.

As for the lenses -- you kind of need them as well -- Pentax has a few gems in their line up which are worth getting despite their price. With respect to the other lenses which are neither unique nor attractively priced, you can get excellent alternatives from Sigma or Tamron or Samyang. Make no mistake, these are not compromised second options. Optically, they can be first-rate. And there is a huge used lens marked from which you can get some wonderful Pentax optics for reasonable coin as well.

A Pentax DSLR + some well-chosen third-party lenses + a few Pentax lens gems + lenses from the used market (including Zeiss, Voigtlaender, Pentax K glass) is a very rational system because it offers great quality for a very good price.

One hopes Pentax will some return to their senses regarding lens prices so that one can recommend Pentax without a lengthy explanation.
