Evidence that 1D X wasn't replacement for 1Ds 3?

I was thinking of this yesterday. The 1D X was announced back in September or so, and I was in the market to buy a used 1Ds. I already had a 1Ds 2 and thought I might be able to get a 1Ds 3 for a reasonable price.

What I found as I waited was that the 1Ds 3 prices remained around $5000 on the used market even after 5 months of the "imminent arrival" of the 1D X, so in February I decided enough was enough and I bought a second 1Ds 2.

The point here is that the 1D X had NO BEARING on the aftermarket price of used 1Ds 3s.

That changed in March when the 5D3 was announced. The price of used 1Ds 3s dropped $2000!!

I think that, more than anything, says that the 1D X is NOT a welcome successor (or competition) to the 1Ds 3 (and maybe that the 5D 3 is!).

What remains to be seen is if the 1Ds line returns in some high MP fashion, or if the 5D3 will now become the camera of preference for non-sports shooters.
