So many novices go up on these forums and get the impression that kit lenses are "inferior" and end up buying heavy, expensive lenses that will not improve their photography one iota. I guess part of it is the lure of owning expensive, new toys, and high-end technical gear. And, if money is not an issue - why not? But for most people, they are buying lenses that are inappropriate for their level of skill and experience.

The kit lens is high-quality optics, and very light as well. Many dismiss it because of its cheap price and build without knowing how good it really is:

Canon really know how to make a cheap high performance optic. I like the light weight of some of their "budget" lenses. They are tough and don't have to be molly-coddled.

I also use the kit 55-250mm f3.5-5.6 IS...another lens which performs well.
