so, where's the new 100-400?

Yes, the 100-400L II is likely to get

  • latest 4+stop IS

  • latest coatings

  • circular aperture and improved bokeh

  • change to rotaing zoom control and better dust/weather protection

But also:

  • It's likely to be priced north of $2500 USD, returning to it's "proper" place relative to the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM II

  • May not be compatible with the Canon TCs (a la 70-300L) because it's f/5.6 and the latest/greatest 1D X doesn't AF with f/8 combos

  • May be sold with the tripod as a $150 option (a la 70-300L)

  • May go for larger (more expensive) 82mm front filter (a la 16-35L II).
