Vr 24-120 f4 vs 28-300 Nikons

Quality NORMAL zooms are perfect for these types of shoots. The 24-70 and 24-120 rival primes at the right aperture.

24-70 is better than some primes at some apertures, not quite as good as a few primes, but overall it's a very fine and consistent performer. I can't agree with you regarding the 24-120/4.

Base on my testing result of the 24-120 f/4 against some good lens:

1. At 35mm: 24-120 f/4 is better than my 35mm f/1.8 @ f/4 (same resolution less CA)

2. At 60mm: 24-120 f/4 is slightly better than 60mm f/2.8 AF-S @ f/4 (same resolution, much better Bokeh Fringing / Longitudinal Chromatic Aberrations (LoCA)).

3. 100mm or above, not as good as 70-300 VR but still good enough to get excellent photos.
