I agree that the lack of a focus ring is a pain but with some practice you can perform manual focus quickly when using the EVF. This is my "workflow" assuming that the function of the lense toggle switch is focus rather than zoom.

1. Flick the switch to AF Macro and press the Focus button once.
2. Adjust the size and/or position of the focus area
3. Flick the switch back to manual
4. One press of the focus button to "get close".
5. Light touch on the toggle switch to invoke manual focus
6. Focus, your choice of method (toggle switch or left/right buttons)

Steps 1 to 3 are not necessary if you are OK with the default focus area size and position.
