My first bird shot with 7D

I dont know what you are getting at. But all 7 of my cats are indoor cats. I dont believe in having cats outdoors. For their safety among others.

As far as the longer lens, I know what I need but cannot afford $1000 or more on a lens to photograph wildlife. I do think My cropped photo looks pretty good.

Yes, you need a longer lens. There just is no substitute for having your subject fill the frame.
