A friend of mine sent his D700 in for the same deal, high mileage and all rubber was falling off, but camera working fine. Sent it to Nikon in El Segundo, cost was around $150 or so as I recall, they replaced all rubber parts and gave it a basic lube and oil change. Turn around was less than 2 weeks. Worth it just to have all the rubber replaced IMO.
Oh wow that's not bad at all. Small price to pay to keep the thing working like it should.
