I hate Auto-ISO (there I feel better now).

I use it constantly unless on tripod, because...

It does precisely what I would do manually. I mostly shoot aperture priority, and for handheld, I'm going for the lowest possible ISO while still maintaining a desired shutter speed - this is exactly how auto ISO works, so...I can't think of any reason not to use it.
