I wonder if DX is on the way out?

The FX line of Nikkor lenses is getting pretty fleshed out, while the DX line is significantly more incomplete, and a bit puzzling (see Thom's comments). Also, if the rumors of a $1500 D600 FX body are true...seems like they might even get under $1000 in the following generation...at which point why not just stop maintaining the DX line of bodies?

With a couple exceptions: greater pixel density ("reach") for birding, and possible greater perceived DoF might make some folks want to stay with DX.

But from a supply chain perspective, it seems like it would be more efficient to consolidate to one sensor size if Nikon could still address the sub-$1K price point.
