Thanks to all for your responses. It looks like we all agree that even though we may have the 80-200 or 70-200vr lenses the 180 f/2.8 is a keeper and gets used a lot. For me, I believe the Nikon 180 is one of the very best lenses Nikon ever made and certainly is the best used value of any Nikon lens with like-new copies being sold for well under the current new price. I can't believe I sold my first copy a year ago but I'm very happy to have it back.

By the way, I have heard and read that the AF on the 180 is slow. Slow? I find it to be fast enough to freeze dogs running at 20mph (in low light) while shooting with my D300 (see link below). The 180 is not a slow AF lens as far as I'm concerned. I found it fast enough to freeze action while shooting with the weaker motor of my D80 years ago (signature photo) as well.
