I cannot understand people's issues with the 12-50mm lens. I just took a few thousand shots on vacation. One half with the 40-150 and the other half with the 12-50. Did major cropping and both gave excellent results.

Camera technique (or lack thereof) counts for far more. You should take the zoom and enjoy your young children. That is the perfect age for a Disney trip.

I had many primes with me on my vacation and never found the need (or time) for any. I think that the solution is simple. If you can bring a tripod (ie. a trip without family), primes will be fun. If not, take zooms.
