NEX5n: Shutter Delay Observed on Long Exposures

I was reading/watching some tutorials on time-lapse so I was checking out my new NEX 5n manual mode settings. I notice if you set the shutter speeds at longer times when you press the shutter button half way and lock focus then press to take the phone the camera won't start start to take the picture for the length time you have the shutter set open. If you have the shutter set to 4 seconds and press the button nothing seems to happen for 4 seconds then you hear the shutter open, processing is displayed on the LCD the at 4 seconds you hear the shutter close. If you set the shutter speed to 30 seconds your wait what seems 30 seconds then it takes the photo for 30 seconds.

How do you get rid of the delay? Is it a setting. I tried to search for a similar questions but couldn't find any.
