What makes a good B&W photo???

I agree & that is a great point Kim, "Just enough of both for the specific image"...& that may even mean a final image with less "punch" than first imagined. Of course this is subjective & aesthetics can be somewhat personal as well.

I suggest you consider doing the opposite of what we see here and see how that goes for you ...

These are contrasty, but some of the few I have that were converted from color images so I thought would be useful as examples of that.
