I agree, Nikon would be making a big mistake by leaving the APS-C pro-market to Canon. It doesn't make any sense, Canon followed Nikon down that path, made big bucks with the 7D, Nikon is taking forever to come with the D300s' update. There are many sensors around for them to use.

Unless the surprise is a fast AF system like V1's covering the whole frame. That's my guess, and only possible explanation for the delay.
