Year in copyright line
In the U.S. you get copyright the moment you take the picture. You do not need a copyright line at all. I imagine people have copyright lines with or without the year, and with or without the copyright symbol for many reasons, but none of it is required by law in order to get copyright protection.
Of course, enforcing copyright when it has been infringed is another matter entirely. I use a copyright line just to let people know that I intend to protect my copyright, for whatever that's worth.
