Interestingly, the non-moving mirror on the Sony SLT cameras essentially provides this functionality as a side effect. The main difference is that the SLT mirror is not cheap to replace.

I can see why that "Dust Shield" didn't get far! So I'm shooting images with my $3000 lens thru a cheap piece of plastic.... I don't thing so!!
