My quick review about halfway down the page. I feel it's about 90-95% of my 70-200 VRII+1.4X from a strict IQ standpoint with a touch better color rendition on the 800. Very sharp for a $400 (used) lens and worth a try IMHO!

AF was fast enough on the D800 to catch some erratically flying birds. As usual 70-250 is better then from 250 up. Stopping down helps as well but you need a lot of light for this lens to be effective.

The 70-300 is a great solution when you don't want the bulk, I have no hesitation in pulling it out of the bag over the 70-200 or 200-400 when I need the portability.
