Hi,
I was not referring to pancakes or primes but to the type of lens I use for my photojournalism.
NX20: 341 g (Imaging Resource)
D7000: 780 g (Nikon)
Difference: 439 g (about 1 lb)
Just to add though, there is no 16-50 f/2.8 class lens for Samsung NX. Pancakes are one of the main reasons to get that system, then the difference becomes
30 mm f/2: 85 g
35 mm f/1.8 G: 200 g
So another: 115 g (1/4 pound).
Kit difference is 426 g vs 980 g (1 kg), or basically the Nikon is 130% heavier.
It adds up, you are carrying less than half the weight with that sample system, but if you need an f/2.8 class zoom with AF on the NX you are out of luck completely. That is why I brought up the pancakes in the first place.
Samsung 18-200mm: 578 g
Nikon 18-200 VRII: 560 g
Kit difference is 919 g vs 1340 kg, or Nikon is only 45% heavier, still a lot, but not as noticeable.
So my point is, the NX is nowhere near the size of the D7000 (I have both). However, as I said, if you are looking for an f/2.8 zoom, I agree, stick with a DSLR sized body, it will balance the lens better and you can't get one for any mirrorless system right now (for the very reason you start unbalancing the camera).
Edit:
If you are talking kit 18-55, the NX is MUCH smaller, the kit lens is very light and compact.
Samsung 18-55: 198 g
Nikon 18-55: 205 g (but noticeably larger dimensions)
Your kit difference is still about 1 pound, which is very noticeable carrying for a long time. Which 18-50 were you referring to?
I was trying to get approximate comparison of the lens, went by grams rather than mm.
Thanks.
