Red Hue

looks like there has been some heavy processing already. How is the color on the original? If it is good you might try moving it to the top layer, change to color mode and adjust the opacity.

Any suggestions on how to cut the red hue while leaving her hair red?
Try this on a duplicate:
  • Apply Image - Red - Lighten Mode at approx. 40%. You will see that it removes a majority of the red colour on her face, etc but leaves a light megenta hue on her skin.
  • apply a mask, fill it with black to the duplicate completely, select a Whitley coloured brush and paint out as much of the red as you like.
I used the same method with Selective Colour adjustments to tone down the yellows and balance the overall tones, healing brush and selective sharpening.

dupe layer> image> apply image> rgb> screen> reduce opacity of dupe layer to 70%.
Flatten> dupe layer> image> apply image> green> lighten> change blend mode to
saturation> reduce opacity to 75 > create layer mask> paint hair w/black brush. gc

It won't look how you created it, on most Browsers, and it looks even redder in PS with its Adobe RGB showing correctly.

Cheers, Tony.

... but this image seems to have travelled a lot from its starting point.

Duplicate layer, correct face from two colour lighting as best as possible. Mask layer and return to original hair and eyes.

The face is very softened and lacking detail - not by me - (unless you're selling spectacle frames?).

Cheers, Tony.

Very, very nice, Gary! I would love to know more about what you did when you got to the Selective Color part. No problem with Apply Image but I can't even come close to your results with Selective Color. Do you mind sharing more details...or, better yet, maybe letting me have a copy of your PSD file?

what software have you used, as the image seems to have suffered from massive softening or noise reduction, which has caused much of it to become quite blotchy.

My experiment on compromise;

I started with curves in separate colours, expanding the range to play with. Then reducing the saturation and luminance of individual hues (mostly reddish). I sacrificed the lips, but I saved the hair!

Sorry but I merged the PSD prior to posting the JPG. What I do usually when making such adjustments because a universal approach to the colour cast doesn't work, is bring the original up beside the current PSD and use it as a guide. I then choose one colour, select it in Selective Colour and apply it to the target area via a mask. This way, I can see how close I am without going too far in a wrong direction. Once the PSD is getting real close, low-opacity painting on separate layers in colour mode helps the blending. In 20/20 hindsight, I missed an addition of contrast (again, applied selectively via a mask)which would have given her a more realistic appearance.

I didn't know how you achieved the results you got without some painting in color mode.

When I viewed yours on this site, it stood out because of the lack of red overall. In fact, I am seeing more of a dull yellowish/gray hue to her skin. Just curious .. was it intentional? Or my monitor settings?

Here's the readings that I got on my sRGB monitor:

I placed mine over yours and yes, color values are not the same, mine are much more saturated in the red department. The op's, when brought into mine, was completely different in colors, I will look later to see what profile was imbedded into his file. I have Corel set to convert to sRGB upon import and upon save with NA web standard. The placement for colors were exactly on your center dots.

Interesting indeed.

When you imported the OP'S file, did it change on your monitor?

Only when you can criticize yourself, should you criticize others. Mikes.

I am seeing the same thing. Karl's version has ensanguined the subject, while mikes' has exsanguinated her. (I had to check on the spelling of those!)

No. I did not make any changes at all. I simply 'dragged-and-dropped' the original from the site into CS which automatically opens it up into ACR set in sRGB. As for causation because of your monitor or app colour settings, there are many more qualified out there that maybe able to assist.
Good luck.
