The 35-70 mini beercan is an amazing lens for the money but that means you will have an effective 50-100 lens on the APS-C sensor. For all around versatility, the kit lens is better. Or, if you want, you can buy the body only and get an aftermarket lens like a Sigma, Tokina or Tamron with even greater zoom ratios, like the 18-200+ lenses. Just read the reviews on the lenses and see which one is the best for your needs.
