Sony Alpha a230 or Canon G11 Need an answer please

I am nearly in the process of replacing my entry-level Sony Alpha a230 DSLR with a Canon G11. For starters, the DSLR mentioned was purchased in January and was rarely used, but I've already taken over 8000 pictures. The shutter life is 50,000 and this is one of my concerns, longevity. Also I don't really like carrying around the bulk of a DSLR as I've found myself changing lenses and missed some photo opportunities. I also can't really afford to efficiently get into buying lenses to effectively achieve better results from the "expensive" DSLR system. On the plus side, it does take great pictures as expected from a larger sensor.

As for the G11, I have found a good deal on a new, never used enthusiast level point-and-shoot that I thought would be a good alternative to the DSLR mentioned. I am aware that there is a difference in photo quality due to the smaller sensor, but I find I always use the lowest ISO possible for the given situation. I shoot mostly landscape photography, macro and the occasional action shot of wildlife. I am very picky about photo-quality so I'm wondering if the G11 will fit the bill? Would the G11 be acceptable now that I've seen the quality of my entry-level DSLR? Can someone provide me a good gallery so that I can see what the G.11 is capable of? Please answer the question honestly without bias from one camera manufacturer to the next

Thanks in advance!
James
