I have a Dell 2210 monitor that shows the same viewing problem that you are having. My work around is simple I just view the image from about 3 to 4 feet away and it seems to work better. I have to do my Photoshop work from about 1 to 2 feet because of poor sight. Then, I just move back for an overall look. This works so good that I rarely have to make a test print. My monitor is not calibrated except for adjusting the Brightness and Contrast so it matches a print from a color test chart. If the image looks good on my monitor then I print it. May not be the best way but it works for me and I am pretty critical about my color prints.
