Re: but why have to bother with extra gear?

My T2i got 180 shots per charge in Live View; 360 shots with the bulky battery grip and with 2nd battery in it. I'm not making excuses for the NEX, but most small batteries, in SLRs, in live view, don't last very long - just like my Canon. Things will get more efficient.

Among some of the newer mirrorless models:
Canon PowerShot G1 X : 250 Shots
Olympus OM-D E-M5 : 330 Shots
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 : 360 Shots
Nikon V1 : 400 Shots (with some reporting getting a bit more than the CIPA list)
Pentax K-01: 540 Shots (not sure if anyone has confirmed this)

So generally speaking the NEX-7 is par for the course. The Pentax, on paper is the winner, but I can't get past the looks & design, and no EVF option - so I didn't even consider it.
