For digital photography limit the background overexposure to no more than 1 stop.

1 stop and a half (actually)
all the rest is correct

Since the overexposure is a personal preference, one stop is correct too. Personally I never go more than 2/3 stop and prefer 1/3 stop. There are many wide angle lenses that flare up when the background is over exposed too much, and unless you are actually trying to get light wrap/bleed around the edges of your subjects, it is best to limit the background exposure.

An overexposed white background will be clipped no matter how many stops it is overexposed, so why over do it?
