If you want macros, the 3rd-party lenses are the way to go. If you want 300mm the 100-300 variants are pretty good. But for overall image quality and the versatility of shooting at 55mm, the DA55-300 impresses. Its 1.5 failings to me are vignetting and focus - but I only take off a half-point for focus as it's not bad just not great. Many shots are shaded around the edges especially near wide-open apertures, but cropping or post-proc work makes it less of an issue. I can gladly live with its minor drawbacks because of its great images; you'll enjoy it.
