I bought a Samsung NX10 mainly to use it as a vehicle for manual legacy slr and rf lenses. Worked and works very well. The NX10 is a no nonsense, simple get it done camera and a pleasure to use. Never had any "bad thoughts" about it. Well, maybe the 2x screen magnification is a bit limiting for manual focus, and maybe contrast detect focus assist as a firmware upgrade would be nice. But I liked it well enough the way it was.
So the 30mm f2.0 kit lens is great and Samsung have a raft of new lenses on track. The evf-free models have never interested me but I can understand that others might relish them. Samsung is making more great lenses and a complete system is evolving.
But I really like the NX10 concept and am eyeing off the proposed NX20 with some porky suspicion. Will the added flab take away some of the glory surrounding the NX10's petite solid little shape? Will the emphasis on new Samsung lenses make newer models more oem lens friendly and less legacy lens friendly. No sign of contrast detect focus peaking, do we get greater screen magnification?
I am all for some great new lenses and I might be tempted into a complete Samsung system but I now already have a Canon EF lens collection and now a MF legacy lens collection. Just me and I am not looking for sympathy. But if Samsung is making it harder or not improving the use of manual lenses on the NX system then the Ricoh GXR with A12 mount is surely powering my boat right at the moment.
So perhaps just when Samsung mount is coming of age as a camera and lens system it is also losing one of its fringe area attractions. Never mind, the NX10 will always have a place as a rugged little get it done manual lens mule. Mmmm there are three NX10's in our family group all being used as manual lens cameras ... Might be the end of the association. But I guess they will wear well, no need to upgrade. Not quite thanks, but no-thanks yet.
Lets wait and see. But I have already bought a second GXR-M body to flesh out my manual lens "system". There is a growing list to port in my thinking ...
Maybe the possible Samsung RF body will be of more interest in my situation. Needs a built in evf before it might out-shine the Ricoh GXR-M though.
Hate to be on a different track to the general chatter over "new lenses".
