This is a critical problem

Sure, it's an issue. But "major" and "recall"?
Really?

You will see. Minor issue is some cosmetitac stuff, creaking door, rubber grip with not that good glue etc. Stray light influencing metering sensor is technically in the same league as if it was hitting the image sensor. It is something that cannot happen in the camera.

You have a type of the problem, and the intensity of the problem. These are two different things.

For this case:
Type of the problem - critical
Intensity of the problem - low

I think Canon will pull all the unsold cameras back to Japan for repair, and then exchange the already sold for repaired ones. Thanks to low intensity people do not have to be that alarmed and can patiently wait for the exchange, because otherwise the camera is usable.

So this will probably be bad news only for people, who wanted to buy this camera soon. They will have to wait some time.
