Re: Upgrading from *IST DS to Kr?

I started out with a DS which I still have and use with utter joy. I will never get rid of it, partly because it is the last Pentax body with true TTL flash metering. (I've got a number of TTL flashes.) But also because it's simply such a loveable camera.

After a couple of years I got a K20D. It is undoubtedly a more competent photography tool, with more and better features. But I never really fell in love with it. A bit too big and clumsy for me, and the high ISO performance was a dissappointment. The DS beats it in that department.

Last summer I sold the K20D and bought a K5. That was a true upgrade! Not much bigger than the DS, high ISO capacity is amazing, and the shutter sound goes pssst-dock compared to the DS' CLAAA_DACKKKK . All the bells and whistles of the K20D and more.

So a choiche between a good lens and a body upgrade is a tough decision. But if you decide to go the body route, I'd recommend you to go all the way and get a K5. Maybe if you wait a few months you can get a good second hand one, when the new top-of-the-line body is released.
