You could do it with the 50. However there have been a couple of lenses that shine in that range and don't cost a fortune. #1 in my optinion is the discontinued Sigma 24-60/2.8, a very sharp lens throughout its range and slightly better in closeup work that the previous models of Sigma 24-70/2.8 before OS. Could be bought new during their closeout for not much more than $200USD. #2 is the Tamron 28-75/2.8, some feel is even better than the Sigma. Very good as long as you can live with the 28mm bottom end. Can usually be found in and around the $270 range.
