Is there an option to switch off EVF stabilisation?

Why would there be an "EVF" stabilization?

I don't know... Maybe a focus group request? It helps composing with long and macro lenses apparently.

Still strange. I recall reading reports about the IBIS can be set to start working with a half press of the shutter button thus enabling a steady view in the EVF (or LCD). Having two IBIS mechanisms in the camera seems just unlikely, especially if one of them make a humming sound while not being needed.

My guess still is this is the IBIS holding the sensor at place.

EDIT: I'm sorry for being so slow... Re-reading your post I now understand you aren't thinking of a separate IBIS for the EVF. Well, the stabilization of the EVF should be an option, having the sensor at place with the camera turned on is just necessary. A noise is not a good thing, at any dB rate.

I still don't understand what they mean. I agree with your original point - the sound is probably the sound of the IBIS actively doing nothing.

Yes, that's what I'm trying to communicate. If so it is very disappointing. Like you I want the sensor bolted at place for the most of the time. IBIS isn't necessary for me but also not a deal breaker when working properly: However, if we get odd acuity problems at some shutter speeds, constant noise and/or other problems I'm getting second thoughts about the camera.

Or are you two saying that when it is switched off it is on but switches off for the shot? Seems unlikely too....

That would be unlikely. I was referring to reports saying IBIS could be set to be activated (actively activated) by a half press thus enabling a steady view in the viewfinder already before the actual exposure moment. That sounds like a good idea for some situations. I just couldn't grasp the idea of a humming sound caused by a constant stabilized viewfinder also if IBIS was set to be inactive when actually taking the image.
