Have you had the lens checked & serviced by Tamron? Lens issues happen to ALL manufacturers. My brand ned Nikon 70-200 2.8 VRii had major FF issues with my brand new D700 - had the lens serviced and all was good.

Ironically the way I figured out that it was probably the camera not the lens was that my 2nd hand Tamron 28-75 2.8 was waaaaay sharper.

3rd party lenses do seem to have more problems with FF/BF, but give them a chance to fix it and generally you'll be pleased with the results.

The other little thing to think about is technique. For exampl focus -> recompose will introduce focus errors with any lens, and will be very apparent if shot wide open.

The reason I mention this is that a lens that both FF and BF is rare. Do you see these focus errors if using the centre focus point and camera on a tripod without recomposing? Thats the only accurate test.
