Re: Yellowstone holiday advice sought

As a young man I worked in Yellowstone for a summer. Since then I have taken my family on two trips there.

1. Plan to drive the total loop around the park. To see everything will take at least a week. Every turn out offers new views, sights and animals. Exploring the Old Faithful geyser area will take at least one day. Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is a “must see.”

2. You can easily spend a few days in the Grand Tetons and nearby Jackson Hole Wyoming. Jenny Lake Lodge offers a terrific view of the mountains. My favorite event there was a raft ride down the Snake River. Some people I have known have participated in mountain climbing there.

3. Understand that the altitude in YP is about 7,000 feet (2,133 meters). The nights are cold in the summer and rain (and sometimes snow or hail) is a common occurrence. The days are chilly too.

4. Chances are you won’t want to leave once you are there!
