Regardless of test differences in DxO / DP Review / Uncle Tom Cobley and all, very few pros will change from Canon to Nikon (or indeed from Nikon to Canon) for relatively small differences on one camera.

It's amateurs who change wherever the wind blows, not pros who know that sooner or later Canon or Nikon will always have a better camera at some point in time. And service and back up also plays a huge role in any business decision.

Of course someone just getting into professional photography and with no investment in either system might go the Nikon route based on the D800's price / performance.

But if people are expecting floods of cheap used Canon 500/4.0s, and other predominantly 'pro' Canon lenses because of switching, then I think they are going to be disappointed.

Thanks for the post. And you just had to let us all know of this why? It's pretty obvious what you are saying, and I agree, but still = why?

Well because in another thread posters were assuming that a large number of switchers to Nikon would result in a large number of L series lenses coming onto the market cheaply. I think that is highly unlikely.

I have a feeling about it. I'm not sure:

Well if Nikon is "buying" professionals over to them, the deal might be that they give the lenses to Nikon equipment and destroy the lenses. No lenses for us to buy cheaply. If not, there would be tons of L-glass available already.

Well I don't know this, but I have a slight feeling that this really is the game of it.
