Regardless of test differences in DxO / DP Review / Uncle Tom Cobley and all, very few pros will change from Canon to Nikon (or indeed from Nikon to Canon) for relatively small differences on one camera.

It's amateurs who change wherever the wind blows, not pros who know that sooner or later Canon or Nikon will always have a better camera at some point in time. And service and back up also plays a huge role in any business decision.

I am one of these who simply cannot understand all the disappointment - for no real reason. Now Canon has the 1D IV which is brilliant, and they will bring the 1D X to market soon. For indoor use and photojournalism indoors the 5D III will certainly also prove to be brilliant.

So why would anyone change brand just because there comes a new camera along? Please explain.

I'm sorry I can't explain Per. I could try - but if I did I'd only be guessing.

Perhaps someone else can have a go?

Well, that guy in the shop told it is fewer errors on Nikon gear. And if that is true that might be a very good reason to stay with Nikon. If the cameras just work day in and day out without repairs. Quality gear that need little repairs is important.

Canon really blew it with the 1D III. Many of them had to be handled in for repairs. That makes a bad reputation of a brand. Not a good job for Canon. Not at all.
