Epson r3000 and B&W prints

I just set up my nice new r3000 printer. Getting Excellent Color prints, but not much difference between the r3000 & 2400 to be honest. (to my eyes that is)

BUT! what is perplexing me is the B&W (mono prints). Fantastic on my 2400 but this r3000 takes the biscuit..Duh!! I chose B&W and the darn thing keeps choosing the priciest paper on the market that I do not have or wish to buy or wish to use.

I put in 3 different papers, all Lustre. Footospeed PF Lustre, Harman Crystaljet Lustre, Harman Crystaljet Elite Lustre and tried Natural/Dark/Darkest etc. and Everyone came out LIGHT! What's going on with this Expensive Printer. The better B&W print was using COLOR INKS with a slight tint of green. For God's Sake! Rant over for a few minutes....

What settings are you all using to get B&W prints better than an Epson 2400.
Please, Please, Do NOT say to use Expensive Papers as I do not wish to buy them.

Tell me something sensible PLEASE! because as said, if I can get Excellent B&W prints with the above papers on my 2400 then this 3000 should do it better. But HOW!
MANY THANKS..
Dennis.
