And the winner is... indoor comparison of 6 lenses

This is long test post with some questions

and no photos ....

This evening I made a test with all my lenses

(years of minolta/sony owner) because I

can't decide which lenses I should carry for

normal use and if I need to buy new ones (I'm

always looking for new lenses tha can give

the best results)

I used my A580 with flash F43AM.

Lenses used (some of them are 2nd hand) :

Minolta 50mm 1.7
Sony 35mm 1.8
Tamron 17-50 2.8
Sony 18-250
Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro
Sony kit 18-70

not used : sony 75-300

I take 20 photos for each lens with same

aperture (f6.5) and similar times (starting

from 1/80 to 1/160). I shot all my photos to

my kids.

Firts obvious result : the looser is for sure

18-70. I'll not spend al lot of time speaking

of it

Minolta 50mm 1.7
Very good IQ
Sharp starting from f4
Little slow in focusing
A good lens (also for the price). It's a

little long (50 on APSC...) so my two kids

never entered both into a photo.

Sony 35mm 1.8
Very good IQ
Sharp starting from f2 (also in the corners)
Never miss the focus. Also good speed
Again very good price.
This is my favourite lens and my personal

winner, but sometimes it's again a little

Tamron 17-50mm 2.8
Good and sharp image quality
A little soft at the corners
sharp starting from f3.5
very good range (1 or 2 childreen or a face

without changing lenses...)
Sometimes it misses the focus (a little

backfocus with also my previous camera with

low light)
It can be my evryday lens but the IQ is far

(for me) from 35 or 50

Sony 18-250
Surprising lens
Image quality is good (far from 35/50 but no

so far from Tamron 17-50)
Sharp (again not like 35/50 but no so far

from Tamron)
Good focus precision and very good range
too soft at the corners
Some visible vignetting
I used this lens a lot but when I see my

photos I always think "Oh if I could use 35mm

in this photo...."

Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro
I use this lens (bought few days ago) for

macro, but I tried also this.
Very good IQ and very very sharp (one of the

best of my lenses)
very slow focus (impossible to take my

childreen freezed for all that time!)
Very long focal range for using indoor.
I know it's a lens for other uses but some

shots are very beatiful.

Sony kit 18-70
I used this lens for a long time (when I had

only this) and was happy whenit was the only

one. Now I can't really use it in no photo

(more if they are indoor photo).

I hope you enjoyed this long post

Now the questions :

1) I love my 35mm, so I'm looking at 20mm

Minolta for landscapes. Will it be good also for indoor pictures ?

2) I can't undestand why I'm not satisfied at

all with the Tamron 17-50. I used it a lot

and took good pictures but sometimes (not

ever) the focus is not very good. Do you had

similar experiences ? (I try it with 3

cameras). I'm planning to sell it (also the

3) Is there any good zoom lens that can give me an IQ closer to my prime lenses ? I saw CZ 16-80 (used on ebay because new it's too expensive). Wil it be better than Tamron ?

4) Am I becoming a PP ? (maybe)
