The trigger cables are spliced in parallel near the trigger side of the cord. The wires are slightly different lengths, but any difference in measured resistance is negligible. Still, wanting to remove another variable from this problem, I removed the PC sync cords entirely, and tried the wireless route. Using the wireless remotes, the photographed results were identical. I calculated about a 43 microsecond delay in both situations.

The more I look into this problem, the more I believe the flaw is with the flash unit itself. One more update I've noticed that the slower reacting flash emits a subtle "pop" or "snap" when it fires, whereas the other one does not. Manufacturing defect? Or is that normal?
