Ben, 1st, it's Wimberley. Maybe it is easier for you to use the Sidekcik, but for me, I level the tripod as best I can then level the Arca/RRS clamp in the BH. Mount the camera portrait or landscape, and rotate the head by panning the base of the BH.

Once you get comfortable shooting single row panos, you should investigate multi row panos. They expand your possibilities even more.

For perfect multirow panos, you need to be able to rotate the camera around the nodal point in both horizontal and vertical directions. To do the vertical, you need RRS's

When I bought my kit it was a lot cheaper, but still horribly expensive. Haven't used it in a while. Maybe I should sell it.
