Interesting things I found out about the NX10's video mode

I use my nx10 mainly for clicking pictures and rarely use the video mode. As all of you know the video mode doesnt have any manual control but allows you to lock the exposure. I recently went to an event in UK and shot some video footage using the nx10. After using the video mode I noticed the following good things:-

1.Color reproduction in daylight conditions is excellent! [Look at the video I posted at end of this message]

2. I managed to shoot approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes of footage on one charge and still had enough charge to shoot another 70 pics before which the battery died down completely. By the way must mention I didnt use the kit lens and instead used a manual pentax lens but still with my experience with certain amateur grade dslrs where batteries used to die down after 1 hour of video footage the nx10 surprised me! The most notorious amongst them all is the pentax k-x which would suck up battery to zero in 5-10 minutes of video shooting!

3.Lesser moire than other dslrs! Now this was the one which surprised me most! As all know most dslrs subsample their high resolution image to a very resolution during video shooting and this results in a variety of problems such as moire patterns appearing when you shoot certain kinds of surfaces such as clothing or a brick wall which makes the footage look ugly! This problem exists in all dslrs which record directly in the camera! Some dslrs such as the gh2 allow you to channel the video stream to an external recorder but this is ok for studio shoots and not useful for outdoors! The nx10's moire is like hardly noticeable most of the time but not horrible looking compared to some dslrs!

4.EVF very useful for shooting videos! - Before you start recording the evf shows very low resolution image quality and when you sharply focus you can see lines at edges! This is a blessing in disguise as this 'confirms' focus when you use manual lenses! But once you click record the video quality in the evf or lcd just gets awesome where you can look at the scene clearly! This is useful when using manual lenses for purposes such as checking focus as shooting takes place or even manually turn aperture to adjust to any light changes! Anyway I find the evf very useful for shooting videos as compared to using the lcd which is how you do so with all dslrs!

Now a brief mention of the bad things:-

1.Horrible rolling shutter while panning! Most dslrs exhibit strong rolling shutter when you horizontally pan your shots but the objects normally will be straight when you pan at medium speed! Sadly this one exhibits strong jello like rolling shutter even in slow pans

2.No full hd mode

3.No mic input

4.Very noisy video during low light

Here is the link to the video I shot:-

Anyway what I am trying to say is samsung can give a strong competetion to the likes of panasonic gh2 or canon 5d mark2 [for purposes of video that is] if they solve the problems before releasing the upcoming nx20 as the nx10 and nx11 have got some strong points which sadly get overshadowed by their weak ones!

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Pentax K-x Samsung NX10 Samsung NX11 Samsung NX20
